lyrics

To this day remains the bloody stain
And the Triumph’s long subsided
But on that day the crowd by Vesper silenced
The wounded Dragon’s roar alone churned the sky

Hayes took pity on the wretched Eva
He turned away our Goddess’ peace
And err’d in ice as Carrick did in flame:
On the second day he’d call on Marcus’ cage

Hiding from the light, he let the serpent’s tongue persuade
His valiant warrior’s heart. Renouncing God, became depraved
And saw his reflection to him become grotesque
So he called himself a freak and deified the worm

Trav’ling to the steel-bird’s nest with purpose
The dungeon where he was seduced
Crying, “demiurge,” he loosed the Dragon
On the third day. Then freed the infidels

Hiding from the light, he let the serpent’s tongue persuade
His valiant warrior’s heart. Renouncing God, became depraved
And saw his reflection to him become grotesque
So he called himself a freak and deified the worm

Atop the empty prison
His corrupted soul
Saw his likeness in the glass
With further twisting visage

His crown of golden thread
Became as writhing snakes
Trembling, placed his weapon
Against his septic head

At last communed with Vesper
Confessing all his sins
She offered absolution
He earned it with his end
